Alice and Miyu by JECBrush Alice and Miyu by JECBrush
Finally, it's done (or at least I think so)! Here is a commish for :iconjabariboykin:~Jabariboykin. Her OC Alice and Miyu having a romantic dinner at the coastline on Corneria.

I wanted to study atmospheric lighting up a bit before I was happy with the end result. I personally think lighting techniques were improved as a result and will most certainly set the bar for future sessions. Tis' not perfect, but it's good. :)

Interpret your own story, if you dare! Hope ya'll like it!

Character Alice belongs to ~Jabariboykin
Star Fox & Lylat Wars Nintendo

The characters are really beautiful and well rended! Her poses, hair, faces and fluffy ears are great ! I specially like the details of the hands and the clothes. I just think Alice's hand and elbow are a bit small. The Miyu's shoulder is too low and too far from her body, but I really like the sharp you gave it ! The perspective of Miyu's ears is well rended but the right one should be smaller considering the perspective.
I must say the dresses are amazing. They are elegant, sexy and correspond to the characters. The folds are well done too !

The background is absolutely beautiful ! The colours are perfect and the sky is impressive ! I always loved in your style that we see the brush's texture but it is still clean and smooth anyway.
But it is too symmetric; the characters are already centered themselves, there is no need to do the same with the background.

The scene is very romantic, the table is great and full of details, this is really looks like they have a wonderful time ! I can easy imagine this restaurant on Corneria even if there are not any elements from the Star Fox universe (Miyu aside of course).
The render of the candle is amazing, you perfectly done the lighting and this flame is wonderful !
The petals looks too flattened, it would have been nice to give them different forms and a visible shadow. The forks are a little to small but the plate looks nice with all this details on it.
The characters's shadow is nice but it looks flat too. If the sun is at the center of the scene, this shadow must be more flared. It would be nice to darken it too.
The Miyu's left hand is beautiful but its pose disturbs the perspective, it looks like the table is in vertical. It should be more flatted or just show the middle phalanges.
The wall behind the characters is really beautiful but it seems too close; I doubt they can move back their chairs and leave after this wonderful dinner.

To conclude, this is an amazing and colorful piece of art, a great fanart with an incredible ambiance. I will watch it very often !

:omg:OK, that's just scary--I can't believe the pic here made me think of it, let alone that I'm even saying it now, but......Err, *starts blushing a little* I......kinda had a dream like this, only with......*clears my own throat* FoxXKrystal, SlippyXAmanda, * can't help fidgeting* BillXFay, KoolXKatt, myself, and......*face turning red* Falco......All of us are......pretty much out for dinner, basically like a group date......I'm, honestly not sure which Star Fox Hero likes what type(s)of food or drinks^^;, but I do know my own; plain cheese pizza:P(especially stuffed crust -W-)for an evening meal, and my best drinks are Root Beer, Hi-C, Hawaiian Punch/Kool-Aid, and Fanta(orange)B-)Dessert(s)? Any sugary goodness I can have:thumbsup:(except for Cinnamon, Peanut Butter--other than Reese's Cups:shrug:--or Mint:bleh:)
:phew:Sorry to make it sound like a rant. On a serious note, though, words just cannot describe how BEAUTIFUL your work of art here is, and I know a lot of them!:D

Miyu ..omg MIYU! This looks perfect to me. Everything mixes well. Your work always have atmosphere. The background is just as amazing too.
My stuff looks like the characters are copied and pasted onto the background...I don't know how to get that...feel/atmosphere for it to mix D:

...I don't even know how to express this with regular words. The reflection of the flame on both glasses and Miyu's earring is excellent, and the reflections on the water are detailed enough to show distance and stillness in the water. Managing to make a linx look like an attractive woman is also very amazing.
Also, what program do you use to make these?

Absolutely incredible work with the lighting and shading in this piece. You have two light sources, the sun, which is behind the characters and the candle which is on the right side of the image. Both are addressed beautifully, the candle lights what would be the left side of the characters but dissipates as you move across the image. The candle flame reflected on the wine glasses also adds to the effect and the small detail gives a much more realistic feel to the lighting piece. Both are also back-lit well from the light source behind them. Shadows are cast from the characters and are evident on the table in front of them including If I wanted to nitpick, and I will because it's really the only thing that I can find is that the lighting on the wall behind the characters is inconsistent. The right side of the image and the left side of the image have different amounts of light in the background. Because the light source is the sun the lighting on a straight object should be the same all the way across, but like I said, nitpicking a minor detail because it's all I could find. If the image wasn't obviously digitally painted, I would have thought you took the background, and foreground from photos because the lighting is that good. You wanted to study atmospheric lighting? Mission Accomplished.

Looks good. The composition is really nice and the atmosphere overall is solid. Alice's dress is awesome. You did a really good job designing that.

I agree with the comment about the light and dark. When you have a big light source like a sunset, there should be more contrast between the background and the foreground. At the moment, there isn't much of that. Maybe if the background were brightened up and maybe the cliffs and rocks given more of a red hue, you'd be able to bring a lot more depth to the picture than there already is. Not sure if a tiny candle like that would give off quite that much light.

Annnd lastly, I have some anatomy critique. It's hard drawing people sitting at a table, since all you see is their body from the waist up it's difficult to keep things in proportion. Alice's arm looks a little short, but I think that's because the foreshortening on her upper arm isn't there. On the other hand, Miyu's left arm looks like it's too long. I'm not sure if you do this already, but it would be a good idea to sketch the whole torso even if it's not going to be there in the final image. It really makes a difference to draw through things.

If my critiques are annoying or anything, just let me know.

I'll agree with you on most of that, except for the candle. I've done a bit of portrait photo work fairly similar to this, subjects seated at a table, etc. Candles give off a lot more light than you would expect, it's actually kind of annoying especially when you have a lot of reflective surfaces around, like glass and silverware it causes a lot of distracting elements in a photograph.

Sailboats still remain a choice for some Cornerians despite the abundance of futuristic tech in Star Fox. Their silent and efficient use of wind power still has an appeal on people.

At least in my story, bicycles co-exist with hovercars.
