A request by ~MASTERWARHERO of Krystal wearing her alternative costume in a perilous mission.
Sorry for taking way too long with this one. This took a few tries to make it look good.

Gen. Peppy sent Star Fox to investigate the disappearance of a mining crew in the glowing depths of Macbeth. Tight choke points prevented the use of Arwings and Landmasters, so the team set out on foot to explore the expansive caverns. To make matters difficult, communication to the Great Fox was spotty and impossible at great depths.
The camps and outposts strewn through the network yielded ominous clues to the mining team's disappearance. As Fox was about to piece things together, large insect beings pounced from the shadows when the team least expected it. Forced out into the open, Fox and the team defended themselves against teeth, claw and spikes of their attackers. The insects caused an avalanche of boulders to fall forcing the team to scatter and find cover.
Krystal finds herself separated from the rest of the gang. She fights for her life only armed with her staff and a few supplies against the swarm. She can only hope she can reunite with her team before Star Fox becomes overwhelmed.
I must say that this piece is excellent. The technique, as yours always is, is stunning. The background to the scene makes sense; maneuvering an Arwing in a mine wouldn't work, same with the Landmaster. The originality of Krystal's appearance is, for lack of a better word, epic.
Now, onward to the overall appearance. The splash is very realistic, as is the ripple alongside it. The appearance of the flash of Krystal's staff on the water is also very original. It is, in fact, so original that I have only ever seen you able to do it. I also find the fact that Krystal is covered in dirt realistic, as she would come out clean after being involved in a rockfall.
This is the last thing I have to say is the few problems I have with this. I know she is running away from enemies, but she still has an awkward pose. My main problem is with the staff though. She is holding it with her left arm fully extended out, meaning she would only get one shot off at an enemy before she would have to re-adjust her arms to be able to shoot another enemy behind her. Being that she has combat training, she wouldn't hold it like that. The second problem is the originality. Krystal is almost always depicted as a damsel in distress with no help in sight. I find that the originality of Krystal herself and the enemies around her evens it out a bit.
Taking all of this into consideration, I would say this is a great piece that is on par with all of your other artwork.
This picture has exceptional detail. The shadowing on Krystal as well as the bug-things (Aparoids?) helps added depth. Also, having a light source from the background and the staff is done effectively; it appears that the fire being shot from the staff is real.
Making the background more smudge-y really aids in the emphasis of the foreground. Also, the reflections in the water have the perfect combination of light, shadow, and ripple effect from Krystal's feet.
I think that despite the uniform not being canon, this new uniform is better. It serves an actual tactical purpose with the side packs, rather than the Assault uniform only to make her look pretty... Good job!
Oh wow, I love the fire effects in this! It kinda fits with the sound effect from the game: not so much a blast as just fire being ignited and projected in an instant. Nothing like a bug roast to get the blood pumping!
Let's hope they can fight them off! Swarm enemies are never fun! Damn Aparoids were bad enough!
If you keep painting these awesome pictures of Krystal, I'm going to sink into a depression of jealousy. Krystal's really in a bind here, and I love the blast/splash effects and foreground blurring that adds to the intensity of the action. How you manage to paint the water so well, I'll never know. There's a superb level of detail on her staff, as well as everything else in the image. You sir, are a GOD!
Oh, don't do that! Besides, your work is vibrant and full of life, which is something that I'm working on still.
I've painted the water based on several photographs that I've taken to achieve the visual effect. It was some studying and researching that made it look the way it did.
Well... I'm nowhere near to being a god. But if I became one, my first divine act would be cheese, cheese for everyone!!! (Cause I like cheese... and Sheogorath.)
